Herenga Waka means a safe harbour — a place to rest, connect, before continuing the journey. Just like a voyaging waka, the hospital welcomes people who come and go: patients seeking healing, families offering support, and healthcare professionals guiding each voyage. This ebb and flow speaks to the continuity of life and the interconnectedness of all who pass through. Herenga Tāngata describes many voices, expertise and view-points coming together with purpose and passion.
The identity for ANZCA is inspired by New Zealand’s diverse natural environment and the cultural significance of its wildlife through a lens enriched by Māori heritage. In this design, elements are carefully chosen and distilled to reflect the deep spiritual ties between the land, waters, and skies of Aotearoa. The typographic logo is made up of two contrasting letterforms to mirror the ocean’s rhythm - stretching, contracting like waves.
