Tītahi Bay's beachside coffee house and gallery was in need of an evocative wallpaper for its ‘Aloha wall,’ which celebrated the collective whakapapa of the owners.
Aloha Friday’s Olympic athletes-turned-café-owners shared photos, news articles and korero about his Samoan heritage, her attending the University of Hawaiʻi, their professional basketball careers and living in Tītahi Bay.
The ensuing wallpaper motifs were inspired by local landmarks like Mana Island and Tītahi Bay's boatsheds, as well as tivaevae using flora and fauna of Aotearoa, Samoa and Hawaiʻi.
