Deliverables: Textile surface pattern
Haeata is the first shimmer of light on the horizon, the break of dawn after the long embrace of night. It is a moment of stillness as darkness softens and light emerges casting a glow across the land. This textile design portrays the transformation that takes place as the world begins to stir; from a still dark silence, there is movement, light and life. It features vivid patterns of koru, pouhine and rauru as well as the vibrant hues of early morning light to showcase the potential of a new day.
The koru pattern represents the energy encapsulated when seedlings blossom out towards the light. The pouhine pattern of steps signifies small daily achievements and the rauru spiral embodies the cyclical nature of life's learnings. The colour palette is inspired by whenua pigments such as kōkōwai as well as plant dyes like tānekaha and raurekau. Together these patterns and colours characterise the beauty that a new day may hold.
Haeata is not the full sun, but the gentle signal that it is coming. It holds the promise of potential, the beauty of transition, and the quiet power of beginnings. It reminds us that even in our most dormant states, light will return — and with it, the chance to rise again.
